The Gneisenau, commissioned on May 21st, 1938, was the biggest and most powerful battleship in the German Fleet at the time, ranking alongside the Scharnhorst. Although her displacement was announced to be 26,000 tons, her standard displacement was actually 31,800 tons. Her main armament consisted of nine 28 cm guns, which were smaller in caliber than those of the same class ships possessed by other countries. However, her other armament was powerful, with twelve 15 cm guns, fourteen 10 cm AA guns, sixteen 37 mm AA machine guns, ten 20 mm AA machine guns, and six 53 cm torpedo tubes. Despite her large displacement, the Gneisenau was protected with strong armor and had a speed of 32 knots, making her one of the first-rank high-speed battle cruisers in the world.
This 1/700 scale warship kit is 13.2 inches long and comes with a name plate included.
