The ship was launched on February 21, 1939, and after completion for service on October 1, 1940, found itself amidst the ongoing World War II, which had already been raging for a year. Following a voyage to the USA, she participated in the Lofoten raid in March 1941 and escorted Atlantic convoys before assuming the role of flagship for the British Home Fleet in April 1941. In May of that same year, she played a pivotal role in the pursuit of the German battleship Bismarck, marking her first significant engagement.

From 1941 to 1942, King George V was involved in numerous search and escort missions across the Atlantic. In May 1943, she was deployed to the Mediterranean, where she participated in major naval operations supporting the Allied invasions of Sicily and Italy. After undergoing refitting in England, she was dispatched to the Pacific as the flagship of the second-in-command of the British Pacific Fleet. As part of Task Force 57 (later reorganized as Task Force 37), she was involved in extensive naval operations during the Okinawa campaign and other actions against Japan.

Following the conclusion of the war, in 1946, King George V resumed her role as flagship of the British Home Fleet. From 1947 to 1949, she served as a training vessel before being decommissioned into the Reserve Fleet in 1950. Ultimately, she was scrapped in 1957, along with her sister ships Howe, Anson, and Duke of York. Another sister ship, Prince of Wales, had been lost to Japanese forces in 1941.

This model kit features a scale representation of the ship, measuring 12.7 inches in length. It includes a name plate, making it a detailed portrayal of the 1/700 scale warship.
